My college dorm neighbor was a big fan of Maino (Jermaine Coleman) and was the one that introduced me to his music. She would play him all the time when we were driving, so when she asked me to come to a show with her, I figured “meh, why not.” Turned out to be a great decision. I had never been to a hip hop show before, so I felt a little out of place, especially since the type of music I usually to bands like Arctic Monkeys and Incubus. The crowd turn out was huge, but luckily my friend is not a huge fan of crowds so we stayed more towards the back to avoid getting pushed around by people trying to get to the front. When Maino and his hype guys took the stage to open with “Hi Hater,” the crowd went ballistic! He performed a solid 10 song set from both his albums “If Tomorrow Comes…” and “The Day After Tomorrow.” Sadly I didn’t actually know as many of his songs as I thought but it really didn’t matter. The energy from both the stage and the crowd was intense in the best way possible. He closed out his set with his single “All The Above” and went out into the crowd to be with his fans, who went absolutely mental, singing and dancing with him. As he was performing within the crowd, you could see and hear how emotional he was, overwhelmed by the amounts of love that the crowd was giving him.
