Biografia
It's safe to say that Freddie McGregor makes every other veteran in the music industry look like a wet-behind-the-ears newbie still searching for their big break. Not only does he have over 50 years in show-business to his name, but he got his start in music at the tender age of seven, singing backing vocals for a local ska duo called The Clarendons under the name Little Freddie. When that band came to an end, he teamed up with Ernest “Fitzroy” Wilson and achieved his first taste of genuine success with the due Freddie and Fitzroy in the late 60's, when McGregor was still just barely in his teens.
With his duo he signed to the label that would be his home for most of his career, Studio One, and after the duo came to an end at the start of the 1970's, he became one of the label's go to guys, doing everything from session drumming to fronting groups like Generation Gap and Soul Syndicate for the label. In the mid-1970's however, McGregor made two choices that would change his life forever, first, he converted to Rastafari in 1975, and shortly afterwards began his solo career in earnest, releasing his debut solo album “Bobby Bobylon” in 1979, fifteen years after his career in music began, despite only being 23 years old.
Ever since then, he's remained one of the most respected and enduring names in reggae, with his influence behind everything from ska, to roots rock, to dancehall, dub and ragga. He has the respect of true reggae fans the world over, and will continue to for as long as reggae is around. For that, he comes highly recommended.

Dear Freddie McGregor,
I just wanted to praise and commend you for your wonderful concert yesterday. You look and sounded like I had just put on one of your many albums I own into my CD players ou looked ready to eat man!
I am disabled n have been for the past 8.5 years, but nothing would have stopped me attending your concert in no way, shape or form! I was asking everyone with an Eventim pass on how I could meet you, my idol but alas no-one could help me.
I wish You could have a concert every week and hopefully during one of these I could meet you personally and have a picture with you to treasure forever.
Now, my girlfriend and I sat next to 2 wonderful women who loved you almost as much As I do.
It was like having two aunties with us but 1 especially not what I expected from a mature woman. She was in competition with me n cutting her eye at me when I was screaming out that I loved you and boy she could whine more than me!!
Then she took unbridgea with me coz I managed to get a close-up of you whilst recording you on my phone and insisted that I interrupt my recording to assist her achieve the same.
So you see your music brings people together. We arrived at the start as 2 friends and we're friends of 4 by the end of the night. I thought your medley of tribute songs to the legends past was truly amazing. You are wonderful Freddy n I and the entire arena last night love you loads. Come again very very soon please.
Your biggest fan in London, Aisha Agyemang. Xxx.
Very few can boast to having a career that has spanned five consecutive decades and then still be taking to stage night after night. Clarendon native Freddie Mcgregor is an elite artist who has a dedication and determination unmatched by his contemporaries. The reggae singer has recorded over thirty albums and thanks to his continued work on the road he has a solid fanbase across the States and the UK.
He is an icon of reggae and dancehall and fans of all ages gather close to the stage and cheer as his accompanying musicians precede the man himself this evening. With steel drums in place and tropical lighting flooding the stage space it is time to begin the groovy opening tones of 'Big Ship'. For Freddie it is clear that the live format is all about the audience and he acknowledges them throughout the show with easy going chatter and a whole lot of charm. Now into his 60s, he believes he still has the abilities to make the ladies swoon as he dedicates 'That Girl (Groovy Situation)'. It is the big hit 'Just Don't Want to Be Lonely' that receives the largest cheer of the evening though with the audience getting behind the ageing singer for the chorus.
I had a great time. The music was excellent. I hoped for some slow R&B but it was all good. The food was SALTY and my husband and I was unable eat it. A Caribbean chef would be better next time. I also have a great picture with Freddie McGregor who is so gracious and patient.
