High Highs are an indie rock band that create vast sound waves with their use of synthesizers and chorus and delay on the guitar. Immediately I am hooked into their show with their attention to detail having fairy lights lacing their music stands. These Sydney rockers have an element of emo music in their sound, this first song being completely led by the drones of Oli Chang’s keyboards and the mundane vocals of Jack Milas. Each song I find is beautifully written, but after a couple of songs, each one fades into the next with the sounds on both the instruments that they play not changing whatsoever. In my eyes they make quite a comeback when they play “White Water” where Jack Milas grabs his acoustic guitar. He has a haunting falsetto that washes over each song in a memorizing way, just enticing each audience member into a state of calm. They draw in the audience so well throughout this set for KEXP.
