Biografia
Hillsong Church began life under the moniker Hills Christian Life Centre in 1983 with a modest membership of just 45 members. In a mere four years however, membership grew to 900 and the scope of what the church could achieve grew with it. In 1986 the Hillsong Conference was established, an annual event that teaches skills and allows Christian musicians to explore their musical creativity.
As a result in 1992 the church released the CD “The Power of Your Love” featuring the singers and songwriters Geoff Bullock and Darlene Zschech who also features on subsequent church releases. The albums became hugely popular by the end of the 1990s, so popular in fact the owners of the church renamed it Hillsong as well.
The youth-led Hillsong United made their debut in 1999 with the album “Everyday” led by Reuben Morgan and Marty Simpson. Each subsequent album was recorded live at the annual youth conference Encounterfest equivelant to the Hillsong Conference.
Following a child abuse case and concerns over the church’s extreme views and reliance on donated funds, the church came under a certain amount of criticism. However in 2004 a live Hillsong release “For All You’ve Done” topped the Australian mainstream pop chart and led to more than 30,000 people attending the Hillsong Conference that year. The 2006 album “United We Stand” cemented the church’s popularity across the world, emerging as 2006’s best-selling Christian album in Canada. A number of the church group’s subsequent albums have found popular appeal including “All of the Above” in 2007, and “a_CROSS//the_EARTH: Tear Down the Walls” and “Faith + Hope + Love” in 2009.

Hillsong has been my favorite live performance. They are absolutely amazing live and they create such a wonderful environment. Their concerts are performances and fellowship in one. They are wonderful performers, however there are also a lot of people who are worshiping God together during the concert. It creates a wonderful performance that every single person is a part of. I had the joy of seeing them live and heard many of my favorite songs. They even performed their recent hit, “Oceans (Where feet may fail)” which everyone seemed to really love. They sang many songs I grew up listening to, which was really cool to experience.
The lighting of the performance was outstanding. During Oceans the stage was blue with white twinkling lights. During the songs they also had lyrics on the screen so everyone could sing with the band. Hillsong is amazing in all of their recordings, but all of the vocals and instruments coming together in a stadium were amazing. It took place in a pretty large stadium, which emphasized the point of the concert. I was reminded that we are all one in a giant place. I could hear all of my neighbors and the band very well. Many people had their hands raised, which I loved seeing in such a large place. I was so happy to see the band live. It was inspirational and gave me a renew of hope. It was so powerful to see such an incredible band live and I hope to see them live and experience one of their performances again, one day soon.
Christian rock is quite a large trend in the US yet Australian outfit Hillsong are currently bucking this trend with their own band of impassioned, acoustic led music all inspired by their faith. They have a huge amount of albums yet it is the last four that have all gone on to top the US Christian charts and therefore have given the band a much larger following.
They still perform in a relatively intimate manner, with lead singer Joel Houston warmly greeting his crowd and making sure everybody is feeling enthusiastic before the band begins. There are currently eleven touring members so as you imagine the operation is one of high production which sounds great in the venue. The deafening cheers of appreciation are well received from the musicians who go on to play favourites including 'Oceans (Where Feet May Fall)' and 'With Everything' in quick succession to wrap up a slick, well practiced live performance. Faith is very much at the heart for both band and patron and this seems to have given them a fantastic connection this evening.
Wow! Praising our Heavenly Father at the Hillsong concert was amazing! Definitely felt his Holy Spirit at the Verizon Theater. Thank you Hillsong for an amazing night of worship. Thank you Brian Houston
