Lee Ritenour is one of those virtuosic guitarists and session musicians that has really made a buzz amongst the musician world. His technique is flawless and has that fantastic ability to move an audience with the content of the music that he plays, but he can also wow an audience with the caliber of technique that he uses. Interestingly enough, he kicks off this hour-long performance on his nylon-strung guitar with a piece of music called “Night Rhythms”. I have to draw attention to his incredible band, made up of one of the most world class rhythm sections I’ve ever heard. Ritenour becomes that guitarist who plays on his many different guitars, including a hollow body Gibson guitar with just a neck pickup, possessing a lot of great character as though it has been very well played into. He finds himself on a Gibson Les Paul to finish his set on the track “Rio Funk”, which is exactly what it says on the tin. I’d be so intrigued to see what Ritenour could do if this was fused together with a dance music atmosphere, I reckon he could hold a club of all ages, making his music transcend to great lengths.
