While they are no longer operating in fully fledged formation, no one can deny this oddly mellow vibe inducing band, their spot etched on the back of the bathroom door. Managing to find their way out of the grime infested, underground rock an' roll world of New York City, the same city that graced us with The Ramones and The Strokes, The Virgins (whether they're ironically named is still up for debate in some circles,) were able to navigate their way to many a European festival including UK favourites such as Glastonbury and Reading, where they promoted their first album eponymously titled 'The Virgins.'
Performing at Le Baron Chinatown, in their home setting of New York City, The Virgins captured the attention of hundreds of eyes, all eager to be encapsulated by front man, Donald Cumming's lazy yet strangely enough, powerful vocals. Armed with a diverse set consisting of fan favourites like "Flowers," "Blue Rose Tattoo" and "Slave To You," five man (not quite boy) band The Virgins, vary on the genre spectrum. Going from punky upbeat head nod rendering notes right down to slower, smoother, longer stringy guitar strumming ballads, that at one point, even guitarist Xan Aird was seen to close his eyes for a quick 2 minute snooze. It seemed he was just so chilled out by his own produced sounds, which by the end, judging by the final screams of their audience, were anything but a snooze fest.
