I've never experienced such contrast between the high quality of an album and the awfulness of a live performance.
Almost everything here strikes a false note: Meg emphasises what isn't good about the album even though that's very little and blows that up into being what the live show is all about.
In between songs, they may stand for 2 minutes, motionless without speaking. Artiness done this way is simply pretension. It's how the evening started wrecking the album. Through the songs, it's fake, put on poses.
The male backing singer is given a lot of centre stage - seems to think he's Jim Morrison while looking like a children's TV presenter. He should be doing pantomime. You have to look away. Megan is a staunch feminist but this guy needs spandex.
The feel is of a support band because Meg Remy with her band overreach like a support band, wrecking what they have, smothering all that's great about the album.
5. One message jammed down the throat is "What is time?" from the closing, weaker, song on the album. It is forced at the audience as if meaningful despite being as profound as "life is life".
Other than stunning guitar breaks, and great solos on a mini sax by an old guy in the band, the music goes far further into a fusion sound than on the album, turgid '70s fusion.
The gig was like the latest U.S. Girls' album a well crafted and concentrated magic that hit you hard, very hard.
The execution of the track "Time" was pure witchcraft, the soul of a young Patti Smith was among us, clocks were frozen and the voice of Meghan was guiding us. Where? You will ask. It didn't matter, our souls were soothed and we were free from the chain of the physicality ...
It was far above the expectations. The musicians are extremely serious and they delivered a really quality music show. The exhibition jumps smoothly from jazz to fusion, rock, pop, disco, noise.
She's great and her latest two LP are really, really good, but her live was really enormous and yes, it far exceeded the expectation.
not only that meg remy is a great live singer / performer, but the the whole band was amazing. the guy on the sax killed it pretty hard. extraordinary.
at the end, meg performed the last part in the middle of the crowd.
one of the best shows i've ever been to. (and i've been to a lot of amazing shows!)
<3 u.s. girls ;)
Passionate , crazy , sensitive, fast , slow , chaotic, crazy (again)
Sound could have been better, I couldn't hear keyboards, drums too high , voice too low.
Awesome voice , drums and bass !
Good fun experience, recommended. Sound on album much better
I will take ANY opportunity to see Meghan Remy perform live. She is a true talent with such a unique and special voice. I've seen US GIRLS twice in 2018. -- Both shows were mesmerizing. I can not wait to see them again!
