Arena Rock has changed since the late seventies. I mean, for one thing it’s not the world’s dominant genre of popular music for better or for worse, but it’s a harder world to break into today than it’s ever been. For that reason, no band will ever get the live debut that Loverboy had any time soon.
Countless bands open up for other bands as their first gig. Not many of them happen to be Kiss. And not many of them take place at a 17,500 capacity ice hockey arena Even after a debut like that, the band still found trouble finding a record label, at least in the United States.
Back home, Columbia records’ Canadian branch snapped them up and they went into the studio to record what would become their self-titled debut album. The joke was eventually on the labels as that album went on to sell one million copies in Canada and two million in the U.S, and the best was yet to come.
Their follow up album was a hit called “Get Lucky” recorded and released when both members of Daft Punk were barely past five years of age.It was a comparable hit though, selling four million copies and bagging the band six Juno awards in one year, a record to this day.
This was another way that touring culture was different in the day; the band had accomplished all of this before they played their first headline tour. That came in at the end of 1983 into 1984, along with “Hot Girls In Love” a single that peaked at number 11 in the Hot 100.
Since then they’ve been true icons of Canadian rock, with singles of theirs still in the public conscious to this day. With decades worth of experience and a truly legendary back catalogue, a Loverboy show can still rock like nobody’s business.

It was an outstanding show !! Mike Reno sang his little heart out and the sound of the band was incredible ! I was front and center for this show . When you go to a Loverboy concert expect to be blown away ! They are a powerhouse of sound !!! Loverboy has always been a great live band and you can hear and feel how much they love what they do. I had a great time ! If you have never seen Loverboy live , then I recommend and urge you to go . It's one big party at a Loverboy concert ! Fun bunch of guy's !
Saw them in Goshen indiana last night and they were fantastic! Even though they are in their 60s now they sound like the same band I remember in 1982! That drummer and bass guitarist did a duet that had your heart pounding. Wow! My only negative was they had the spotlight so bright on the lead singer you couldn't see him or take pics or videos. Was very happy with this rockin concert! :)
Lovely was awesome! Only thing I wish that they would have done was sing Kierleason. (sorry for the spelling) We had so much fun at the concert. TJ Corral is a great place, not to big, not to small. You feel like your getting a personal experience when the band plays.
Show was Too Short but a sweet 60 Minutes Of music Is a Short Concert. The Beers And Mixed Drinks At The Venue are Way Way over-Priced At $12 To $15 Each. Talk about Greedy ! Maybe Disney owns This Place As well. An Intermission Is Needed as Well as a warm up band !
Great show! Sold out venue with great views from all seats. High energy! Sound was amazing - Mike Reno’s voice is just as great as it’s always been. Reliving the 80’s never felt so good! Ticket prices were excellent.
Loverboy as always was great. I have loved the guys for over 30 years. They are the greatest. Always have and always will. They also rocked it out with their greatness. Doug, Paul, Mike were great .
the show was great...They sounded awesome. Definitely a good time !
For a band that's been around as long as they have...they still sounded great. The lead singers vocals were still dead on.
Concert was great but very short.
Show started late and ended early ;(
No intermission a warm up bad would be a great idea. Liquor prices at venue extremely high. $12 For A Large Beer Can !
Really glad I went. I was pleasantly surprised as I've seen over 1000+ concerts in my time...they were very good. Loved hearing the hits. Matt's drumming was AWESOME.Very talented group.
I saw Loverboy back in the '90s when they played as part of an ensemble at The Freedom Colosseum in San Antonio, TX. They ROCKED back Then; and They STILL Rock NOW!! FANTASTIC TIME!!
