The genesis of Alesana begins with the street that two of the founding members of the band grew up on. Lead singer Shaun Mike and rhythm guitarist Patrick Thompson lived on Aliceanna St. in the bands home city of Baltimore, Maryland, United States, the same place that the first incarnation of Alesana formed. It took relocating to Raleigh, North Carolina in October 2004 for the band to solidify their line up and start performing live under their new name. The band essentially debuted fully formed, and within the space of a few live shows they had the beginning of a devoted grassroots following.
Also starting up at the same time was a local independent record label by the name of Tragic Hero Records, and after catching the nascent Alesana perform live, they offered the band a record deal. The band became the very first group signed to the label and their debut E.P “Try This With Your Eyes Closed” became one of the label’’ very first releases as well. The record was something of a hit for a label and band who probably couldn’t be any greener, all things considered, and Alesana were soon touring nationally, playing festivals and clubs wherever would put them on. Buoyed on by their early success the band went into the studio to record their debut album in spring 2006, and “On Frail Wings Of Vanity And Wax” was released in the summer of the same year.
Ever since then the band have been critically acclaimed cult heroes who’ve toured with everyone from Asking Alexandria to The Chariot. They may not see the kind of commercial success that other bands of their ilk have enjoyed but they seem to be satisfied with their position as the connoisseur’s choice of post-hardcore, paving the way for the likes of Letlive. and A Skylit Drive. They’re one of the unsung heroes of American rock’s most celebrated sounds, a terrific live band and command a world-wide cult following, and for those reasons, Alesana come highly recommended.

I have been religiously listening to Alesana since 2007, they have always had a very unique tone and vibe, not to mention their incredible lyrics! Finally after being a huge fan girl for so long, I was able to see them on the 2010 Vans Warped Tour. Despite the fact that they were in the indoor portion of my venue, they had a shockingly large pit. Everyone was cramped in the tiny area that was the only place where a pit could happen. These guys were absolutely incredible! They sounded so close to the recordings it was unreal, at the time it was fairly hard to find bands that sounded similar live to their recordings, not to mention their stage presence! The guys were going crazy up on the stage, one of the members even ran down the side ramps that literally no one used except for loading equipment and they high-fived anyone that they could. Along with their amazing stage presence, all of the fans were going absolutely insane! There were so many mosh pits forming I couldn't keep up with when to move, I even almost was kicked in the ribs, thankfully a friend helped. I have also had friends who have had the extreme pleasure of meeting the members, everyone has said that they were absolutely incredible guys. So, if you remotely like them, aren't sure, or are a huge fan like me, you definitely need to see them live.
If you want a night to remember, then Alesana is the band to see! Seeing them live was an incredible experience. Not only do they sound better than their albums, but also interact with the crowd! Unlike lame bands who only decide to stay on the stage, Alesana gets down from the stage itself. Their set contained about 7 songs, and I never saw one person who didn't jump, or scream out the lyrics. Alesana definitely brought the crowd to life. The music they're known for is Hard/alternative rock. They played perfectly considering how small the venue was. Alesana has been around since 2006, and kept their music alive. Even their setlist contained old songs from "On frail wings of vanity and wax." to "A place where the sun is silent." My personal experience seeing Alesana live was astonishing. I've been a big fan of them since 2006. During the show, I got pretty close to the front. The lead singer, Shawn was close to my side of the stage. While they were playing a song, I had my eyes on him. He looked at me! I melted because of his angelic persona. Overall, there's nothing about the band or their performance I can comment negatively on. Seeing Alesana live is a life time experience!
North Carolina rockers Alesana have been making waves since they formed in the mid 00's. Having toured relentlessly for almost ten years, they have amassed a huge following for the post-hardcore sound and they have been busily expanding their discography during breaks in the gruelling touring schedule.
This devotion has seen them performing on larger stages although they always manage to make the experience feel intimate. Shawn Milke and co understand the devotion of their fans so they continually acknowledge and thank the screaming masses. They perform 'Hymn for the Shameless' to deafening cheers and the crowd jostle beneath their feet and sing along to the anthemic chorus.
As the band begins to wind up the set with 'The Thespian' Milke launches himself into the front row as the crowds surge towards him as he jumps in time with the music and holds his mic high above the masses. By the finale of 'Beyond the Sacred Glass' the crowd are one sweaty, jostling mess and the band leaves knowing they have well and truly entertained.
I've been waiting for an opportunity to see Alesana in concert for 6 year and just as I expected they did not disappoint. They perform amazing live.
As for the other bands, most of them played music that I didn't care too much for, except for one band. The Funeral Portrait really caught my attention, to have never heard of this band and seeing them for the first time, I would've never guessed that this band was fairly new to the music scene. Their music is fantastic and I can definitely see this band being real big in a year or so.
Overall I enjoyed the show and would definitely will jump on the next oppertuinity to see them live again.
They are amazing, I've seen them 3 times now and each time is just as good if not better than the last. Their interaction with the crowd during the entirety of the show is spactacular. They never disappoint!
Absolutely the best show I've ever seen!! The music was phenomenal and they guys were so interactive with the crowd! It was insane and I loved it. I can't wait until the come back to Denver!
How was the show? I'm 22 I've been waiting since I was 14 to see alesana live, how the Fuck do you think it went?!!! Best show of my life period!!!
