Born Robert Van Winkle, Vanilla Ice has built up a reputation as a rapper, actor, and television host. He hails from Dallas Texas but resided in Florida. It was after signing a record deal with a division EMI called SBK Records that he released “To the Extreme” which broke the record of being the first hip-hop single that topped the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. It also broke the record of being the fastest selling hip-hop album of all time, maintaining the top spot for a total of sixteen weeks. It has since gone Platinum in the UK and 7x Platinum in the US, and 6x Platinum in Canada. On the album featured the song “Ice Ice Baby” which went to number 1 in four countries, and achieved Platinum certification in US, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. There was also the song “Play That Funky Music” which didn’t quite match the success of its predecessor, but it still made it into the top 20 of six charts internationally.
“Extremely Live” followed the release of this album on March 6th 1991, which made it to number 30 in the US and 35 in the UK, being certified Gold in Canada and the US. Despite the outstanding global success of “To the Extreme”, Vanilla Ice didn’t match the success of that album with any of his following five full-length album releases. Fortunately his song “Ice Ice Baby” has featured on many compilation albums since, and on Jedward’s cover of the song where Vanilla Ice featured on the song himself. The song made it to number 2 in the UK Chart.

The venue was very nice and the drink prices were fair (my Hendrick's g&t was 6.50 and my wife's rum drink was 7.50). The tickets were a steal. According to the website, the show was supposed to start at nine. Vanilla didn't go on until after eleven. No one from the crew or bar gave the crowd any updates. After about nine thirty, the dance floor started filling up and I was protecting a great spot near the stage. If I'd known I was seriously just going to stand there and bob my head for an hour listening to the DJ, trying to guess what it meant when the roadies inspected the drums with the light on their phone for the twelfth time, I would have sacrificed my spot and gotten more comfortable. Vanilla was great. He interacted with the crowd a ton and put on a really fun show involving several cases of bottled water. His songs are full of energy and they're catchy, so you can still have fun if you're not well versed in Vanilla's newest stuff. My wife and I left halfway through the set - we drove three hours to see him and he started two hours late. We had a great time, but I did leave melancholy. I always admired Vanilla's dignity and sense of humor about himself. But between songs, I think Vanilla gave us his complete resume, including total albums sold and how long his tracks spent in the top ten. Vanilla is talented, accomplished, and beloved by generations of people. I don't think he needed to remind anybody there last night, point by point, of how great he is. I would probably go see him again.
Robert Matthew Van Winkle better known by his stage name Vanilla Ice was considered to be something of a joke act in the 90's when he appeared with international hit 'Ice, Ice Baby' which topped the charts in both the US and the UK. Cut to a few bad movies and cringe worthy reality appearances riding off the fame later, the rapper has now taken things back to basics and focuses entirely on the music.
He was considered to be part of a movement of white rappers to find success and therefore he has always had a fanbase despite none of the follow-up albums charting anywhere. This does not effect Robert's demeanour onstage as he performs with enthusiasm and proficiency whilst tackling complex verses. Armed with a selection of hype-men, he keeps the crowds jumping along to the music and even treats fans to a nostalgic renditions of 'Play That Funky Music' and 'Ice, Ice Baby'. You have to respect Winkle's effort, he clearly still enjoys performing and hip-hop in general as he would not continue to play to fans otherwise.
Vanilla Ice has evolved into many things since his smash hit “Ice Ice Baby”. For a while he was nothing but a joke and then kind of a normal guy next door.
He has had reality shows and terrible movies over the years but the fact is there are tons of people who can still sign every word to that song more than 20 years after it was released. There are not a lot musicians or rappers who can say the same.
I saw him him in a small club in Florida. It was more of a guest appearance than an actual show. He jumped on the stage during a set and did 3-4 of his songs. Of course he did “Ice Ice Baby” but he also did some other ones from that album including his other radio song “ Play that Funky Music”. The crowd was really pumped to see him and it was a great surprise. Everyone knew the words to the song. He was not dressed up and looked like a normal guy this look was much better than the cheesy one that he had in the 1990’s and really suited him better. It was a fun experience.
The sound and production sucked. Mics were muffled, the vocals didn't come through all that well. Don't think the FOH had ever listened to ANY of the acts. The volume was extremely low, there were dead spaces of absolutely nothing going on, a 15min useless intermission for what reason? Everything was backlined. The light were boring. The stage was illuminated with white lighting for the duration on most acts. I don't know how Ice came across because my buddy and I left right before his set cuz we were so over it. Whos idea was it to fill the stage with our local whale population any ways?
HI,I LOVE VANILLA ICE AND I HAD HIM ON MY BUCKET LIST .SO WHEN I WENT TO SEE HIM I WAS SO EXCITED .I AM 68 YRS OLD AND I STILL THINK HE IS AWESOME .BUT I WAS ALSO A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SHOW .I WANTED TO SEE HIM NOT ALL THE GIRLS HE HAD ON STAGE SHAKING THEIR BOOTYS IN MY FACE . HE SHOULD OF CALLED ALL THE GIRLS UP AT THE LAST OF THE SHOW.THEN IT WOULD OF BEEN OK .BUT I LOVE HIM AND HE IS GREAT BUT I WILL PROBABLY NEVER BE ABLE TO AFFORD TO GO SEE HIM AGAIN ,.SO ANYWAY I WOULD OF LIKED A BETTER EXPERIENCE .
LOVE U ,

Overall the show was fun and full of energy and my friends and I had a great time! However, I feel like Vanilla Ice was a let down. He seemed more interested in having a "block party" on stage instead of actually performing any of his songs. Salt-n-Pepa should've closed out the show, they were awesome!!
Had a blast. Was sad that Young MC was unable to make it to the show, but the rest of the acts made up for it. This show was a dream come true for my friend and I'm happy I could make it t happen for her.
The show was awesome. Can't wait until next time. Brought back old times. Salt and pepper was also good the best. Ton loc was good young mc amazing. Can't wait until the next show keep me posted.
