One of the most underrated alternative bands of the 90’s, Ben Folds Five (actually a trio) never fails to disappoint in concert.
The best (and possibly only) band in the power piano pop genre, Ben Folds has been rocking out since 1993. You would never look twice at the guy on the street; just another casually dressed, shaggy haired nerd in the crowd but it’s when he takes the stage that begins to truly shine. Doing double duty on piano and vocals, supported quite ably by Robert Sledge and Darren Jessee on bass and drums respectively, Mr. Folds is a true powerhouse.
While he does have a stool on stage, he can rarely be found sitting on it. Frequently kicking it aside to crouch over his piano and pound away at the keys, you can’t help but think of Pete Townshend and wonder how often he has to get the thing repaired.
The crowd is one of the best things about seeing Ben Folds Five live. We are a loopy energetic and totally dedicated bunch. There will be dancing, bopping, singing along and possibly a bit of random whooping to round things out. I have never had a bad time seeing these guys and I urge all fans of fun, well crafted music to check them out.
