Here is a list of the most famous people who got one of their first breaks playing with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers; Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Mick Taylor, Peter Green, John McVie Mick Fleetwood and Dr John. Those are only the most famous names. Many, many more artists were picked up by Mayall to play in the Bluesbreakers, including members of Free and Canned Heat. For a time Mayall’s name was spoken with the same if not more reverence as The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds, and there are only two differences between then and now. The first difference being that John Mayall is now eighty years young, and the second being that Mayall’s name may not quite have the same pull as it once did, but my God, the man can still play and perform with the best of them. Having left the Bluesbreakers behind with their 2009 album tough, Mayall now plays under his own name, honking on his mouth harp with the passion of a man a quarter of his age. He still has that magpie eye for talent as well, his band being the best one he’s formed since his early seventies heyday. With Jack White and The Black Keys proving that the world’s hunger for the Blues is far from satiated, Mayall stands as one of the few true originals left. To see him now isn’t to pay tribute to some long forgotten idol; it’s to see a dyed in the wool performer still at the top of his game sixty years after he started playing. Highly recommended.
John Mayall, OBE is one of the UK's most influential blues musician who can boast a career spanning over five decades. He rose to prominence as a founder of the band John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers which featured a whole host of incredibly famous musicians including Mick Fleetwood, Eric Clapton, John McVie, Peter Green and Mick Taylor amongst others.
Although Mayall may not have had a career as worldly recognised as the likes of Fleetwood Mac, he has been touring and releasing music consistently since his solo debut in the late 60s and fans have come to see him play ever since. Now in his 80s, the musician continues to take to stages across the UK to a devoted fanbase who continually singalong to his classic material and cheer in all the right places. Supported by a talented live band, they dissect John's discography and select the very finest blues to showcase tonight along with covers of Sonny Boy Williamson and Louis Jordan. An awesome performer and a charming man, there is no denying the importance and legacy of John Mayall.
Awesome show.
Started by a little diappointment: he was selling his CDs before the show and there was a sign saying something like "autographs now, not after the show". So I stood the line like an idiot, only to learn when it was finally my turn that he will "only be signing the tickets after the show". So the autographs were first available for those who wated him to sign his CDs. Why didn't he say so right away...
Well, I finally did get the autograph after standing in another line after the show. But oh well - what happened in between was a full compensation. He showed he is an example of the fact that with some people age doesn't matter. With his voice just as strong and uninterchangeable as ever before he performed for two unforgettable hours, and so did his band. Energy shone from them all the show long.
Dude puts on one hell of a show for an 80+ year old. I was impressed with the energy, and the band performed quite well. I liked the fact that he not only did newer songs, but also went back to his earlier work. He had the crowd dancing in the isles. He also interacted well with the crowd, at one point stopping to shake hands with one fan. Great show, enjoyed the opening act also, Joe is good. I hope Mr. Mayall comes back this way soon. The first blues album I ever bought was Mayall's Blues From Laural Canyon, way back in the day, so I credit him with my life long love affair with the blues. Rock on, John Mayall.
Gosh, it was faboulous.to two youngsters with mæ.we tok flight 2000 km north from Stockholm. I really love the vere he has this time. Man on droms fantastic. Miss Wonderland beatiful performance and being. And bassplayer, loved him. Was at the first concert in stockholm october 67? The guy next to me said, you dont best me. So l har to Google it... februar 67. Å tiny tiny place middle of sweden where it har started to rain.. Beatles and Stones got medals... W H A T about Mr Mayall? Hellooo??!!! Have l missed something?.. thanks mister for all these years. Mona Mansoora.
John Mayall's show yesterday was one of his best performances, ever. Even though he is 85 years old, he still KILLS every chord and song. Absolute superb show by the bassist, drummer and of course, the extraordinary guitarist that Carolyn Wonderland is. She is absolutely amazing on the guitar, and her voice could definitely fill the whole theatre.
The public was ecstatic, clapping in every possible chord. I missed Room To Move on the song's list, compensated by Chicago Line, with an extraordinary repertory of solos by the band. It was an amazing experience.
John Mayall along with his truly excellent band consisting of Rocky Athas on lead & rhythm guitars, Greg Rzab on bass guitar and Jay Davenport on drums, put on a memorable performance.
John Mayall has such a wonderful rapport with the audience and he is such a wonderful musician in his own right, his self confidence allows him to shine the spotlight on each of his band members in turn to allow the to show what each of them can do.
I had a smile my face the entire night.
In a word terrific.

Fabulous concert! We saw him 2 years ago, and found out he had been very ill, this time he was vibrant on his feet playing keys, brilliant. Watch out for Carolyn Wonderland, incredible guitarist, little bit of Melissa Ethridge and a lot of Janis, and with a great set of pipes. Bass player was fabulous as well, only problem was, the show was too short, but at 85 Mayall was fantastic. If they come to your town, this is a don't miss show.
John Mayall has assembled a band which displayed a mastery of musical rhythms allied with dexterity, passion, professionalism and humour which added up to a magnificent performance.
John's voice is still strong and emotive but he still opted to share singing duties with his awesome guitarist Carolyn Wonderland. They were ably supported by the rock solid rhythm section of bassist Jay Davenport and drummer Greg Rzab.
Replace Carolyn Wonderland, technical ok but heartless guitar play. Tired of her afrer two songs.
Bass solo of Greg Rzeb was bad, lots of dead notes, terrible. Expected more slow blues like last time two years ago. Drums were very god.
Still John Mayall is kicking around alright he is a legend, but neefs better musicians around him!!
