Growing up in Bristol, TC’s home town, I’ve had the chance to see him perform at club night from a young age, performing both as TC, and as DJ Tom Casswell, and I can say that each performance has been fantastic, but recently seeing him in London after a few years, he has come on leaps and bounds, and it was incredible. After dropping out of school to pursue music, TC was lucky enough to have his debut album Evolution released through a prestigious label, giving him a name in the drum and bass scene, and getting noticed by Zane Lowe, who helped him achieve his commercial recognition.
He opened the show with a remix of Plastic Colour, the Pendulum song that he featured on back in 2005, and as the entire audience seemed to be hard core drum and bass fans, it went down incredibly well. The great thing about TC is that as well as being an incredible DJ and producer, he’s also a fantastic vocalist. He often has samples of his own voice in his mixes, but what was awesome and a breath of fresh air at this performance was that he actually sang live over his DJing. Bringing something new to a performance is always a risk, but this was one worth taking, as the audience loved it and were even singing along.
TC was great at interacting with everyone and maintaining the energy, and really mixed up the tempo of each neighbouring song to keep everyone on their toes. It was the best DJ set I’ve ever seen, authentic, and performed live, I’d highly recommend it.
