The Case à Chocs, a concert hall emblematic of Neuchâtel's underground culture, has been located in the former Muller Brewery since 1996, after a brief spell in the Suchard chocolate factory in 1991. It has become the current music venue of the city of Neuchâtel, its main supporter. The imposing building with its industrial appearance houses two concert halls, one with 800 seats, the other with 100 seats and a café. During the season from September to June, it offers a wide range of events. Fifteen venues are used for a small fee by local bands. La Case explores all musical styles, or almost all, and navigates between discoveries, concerts, video projections and dj's in an alternative and mainstream register. Electronic music, Rock, Folk, Hip hop and Reggae each have their own audience. Young and old (16 to 60 years old) meet there on weekends. The 2010 / 2011 season welcomed 35,000 people during 163 events. 60% concerts, 35% DJ evenings, 5% other events (workshops, theatre, conferences, etc.) La Case à chocs is managed by an association, the ACDC (association de coordination de la Case à chocs). A decision-making committee, an office composed of 5 salaried employees for a total of 250% and 80 volunteers run the establishment. The story is not over...
