Group 1 Crew are a band who employ a sort of Christian Hip Hop. They have blown up over the last decade with the largest sound accompanying what they do. Their popular song “Forgive Me” which featured on the hit show One Tree Hill, is the song that kicks everything off this evening. There is a huge buzz tonight surrounding this band fronted by Jose Reyes and Sarah Sandoz who hail from Orlando Florida. They walk out on stage and start shuffling to LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem”, before launching head first into the huge “Can’t Go On”, the song that sounds almost as thought it could’ve come out anytime between now and 1980 and it would’ve been current, with everyone bouncing along to this new jack swing beat. There is just no surprise with how good this band are, especially when they perform “Forgive Me”. It really is music for the masses, catering to a number of different audiences with it’s Hip-Hop vibe and it’s pop side, the atmosphere is electric.
Christianity and hip hop are not two things naturally associated yet this is where the passions of Jose Reyes and Sarah Sandoz who have been creating their own brand of christian hip hop since coming together in 2004.
After the success of their first release 'Can't Go On' in 2007 they took to the road almost immediately to promote the release of their albums and singles to an ever growing fanbase.
There is a huge emphasis on fun, unity and free love throughout the show as they want to make sure everybody enjoys the performance regardless of whether they know all the songs or just one of them. They run through a set lifted from all four albums and keep the whole audience engaged as they interact throughout, emphasising the importance of music and of course faith. 'His Kind of Love' and 'Walking on the Stars' wrap the show up wonderfully and contented everybody there.
