Edinburgh pop punk outfit The Rezillos have now been active as a band for an impressive 35 years and all these years later there remains a demand to see these eccentric alt-pop icons. Their album 'Can't Stand the Rezillos' is now considered a classic album of the first wave of British punk yet the setlist tonight consists of a range of music from across their career.
This means the crowd have the opportunity to sing along to the alt hits including '2000 A.D' and 'Out of This World' as the musicians onstage throw themselves around fairly aimlessly yet they still manage to hit all the notes required. Having only released two albums in their whole career, a large majority of the setlist focuses on that classic debut and although it is nearing its 40th birthday, the audience know the tracks well. There is mass singalong for 'Top of the Pops' and the kitschy 'Flying Saucer Attack'. The encore is reserved for one final Scotch bellow-along to 'Someone's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonite'.
I struggled across the M62 in the face of Storm Dennis to see the band at Manchester Rebellion last night. Was it worth it? You bet your buttons it was!! The Rezillos put a smile on my face from start to finish, and I’m proud to say my 25 year old son was as pleased as I was! Fun, fun, fun and if anyone there didn’t enjoy that, then you don’t like life. Many thanks to Eugene, Fay and the rest of the band for a fantastic night - long may they reign!!
A really great gig by the Rezillos at the Concorde 2. New songs were great and fantastic to hear the classic old ones. Great to hear "somebody's gonna get their head kicked in tonight" without it causing a fight as it apparently did in the old days. Perhaps the fans have aged and calmed down. I had a bop around to the old fave songs. Hope Faye is OK after falling on stage! Great to meet Eugene at the merch stall and get my cd signed. Great gig!
Commander Eugene & Faye Fyfe and the rest of the band were just as lively, sounded the same as they did in the eighties. Everybody rocked along to their new material & particularly the original songs, a great pre The Stranglers gig artists, brilliant A1
Great to see one of the best British bands of the punk era.
Wish they would have played longer, as the audience warmed to their enthusiasm and energy.
Come back to New York soon.
Saw that Rezillos at The Dog House last tour.
As good and entertaining as ever. Great support as well what a great band and venue.
Will be going again in November.
