A band will always have my attention when they have something immediately a little bit different about them, for example, Bowerbirds, the North Carolina outfit consisting of three-part harmonies, accompanied by guitar, violin and accordion, that is definitely a ‘different’ kind of set up.
It is no rumour that this band has been working to the bone honing their craft for the best part of about 8 years now. They have a lot of hope and promise with their breed of indie acoustic folk music.
Tonight we are fortunate enough to get a taste of what they do at this showcase. There is a real calm about the audience this evening, almost with an atmosphere of just pure appreciation. “Ghost Life” is the mystical opener, that has punters swaying from side to side, singing along but not too loud as to sing over the stunning three part harmonies that are happening. There are some fantastically tender moments between the instrumentation where you can tell that this band have figured out what works where with the blend of the accordion and violin playing in harmony. Truly breathtaking.
