Laura Jansen has a wonderful voice that carries well and it's evident when she sings "Queen of Elba". It always amazes me how well she is able to time her singing with her backup singers and it's so good in fact that it seems as if she is simply making a recording in a studio.
When watching her live I continue to feel this way because her voice is so clear and smooth that it's hard to believe that she is actually singing live. In looking at the venue and the stage itself I get the feeling of a small dance hall rather then a enormous stage in large part because Laura is dressed the part and her drummer and backup singers and all close to the center of the stage rather then spread out as is typical of some performers like her.
During "Queen of Elba" the lights are shining and colored in a way that really brings out the spotlight and makes it easy for you to see her and the other artists as they perform. The really interesting part about this particular performance is that the piano itself doesn't stand out to much because of the fabric draped in front of it and it almost seems as if it's part of a table rather then the back end of the piano itself.
This helps to bring attention to Laura herself as she performs. It never gets old hearing an artist sing over light music and this is the major reason that I always want to see her perform live. Her songs are really upbeat and give you hope that you can get through the hardest parts of your life and come out on top and that is always a wonderful feeling to have.
