Fred Eaglesmith is a true legend in the world of alternative music, being associated with the rock ‘n’ roll and country music genres he has an impressive discography currently standing at a whopping total of 20 albums. The 57 year old singer-songwriter is perhaps best associated with his creative writing, and the unique story telling technique whilst performing which he uses is phenomenal. Eaglesmith has such an epic career that he is almost considered to be a cornerstone in the country music genre in North America, inspiring music festivals and more often than not being the headline act at a number of these events across the US and Canada.
The Canadian born singer pays homage to his Father’s idol, Johnny Cash, in his single from 2013 from album ‘6 Volts’ named after the country legend; he says that whenever Cash came on the radio his Dad would stop what he’s doing and really listen.
Often relaying the tales of hardship in rural America, his work is famous for telling the stories stereotypical country music iconography; farming vehicles, down and outers, love, drugs and alcohol, to name a few. A typical live show of his would consist of engaging the audience with comedy, integrating a kind of stand-up routine into his set. So many fantastic albums and tracks to choose from, it’s difficult to know what a typical Fred Eaglesmith set list will include; and despite the fact that a majority of his work is a negative portrayal of life, the performance means that it would be tough to leave a live show without a smile on your face.
