Lisa Mitchell is an English-born Australia conquering singer-songwriter who was raised in Albury, New South Wales. She gained her commercial break after making it to the live shows of Australian Idol in 2006 and despite only finishing in sixth place she has gone on to enjoy a successful career following her early exit.
She released her debut EP 'Said One To The Other' in 2007, a year after her appearance on Australian Idol and it went on to top the iTunes chart in Australia, subsequently this scored her a deal with London-based publisher, Little Victories, a group affiliated with Sony/ATV. In 2008 Lisa made the decision to relocate to London to focus on the recording of her debut LP 'Wonder', upon release it debuted at #6 on the Australian charts and the following year it scooped the 2009 Australian Music Prize along with $30,000.
After the success of the debut Mitchell returned to Australia and settled in Melbourne to work on the follow-up album Bless This Mess. It was released in October 2012 and peaked at No. 7 on the Australian albums charts. Over her career she has been nominated for five ARIA music awards and one APRA award despite having only released two albums. A third album is expected next year, a preceding singe titled 'Wah Ha!' was released in September 2014.
Lets talk about this fresh young Australian Idol alumnus, Lisa Mitchell who is originally from Canterbury, Kent but moved over to Australia at a young age to grow up in Albury. Her debut EP, “Said One to the Other”, topped iTunes in Australia and then she signed with the London-based publisher, Little Victories.
Tonight she brings that wonderful indie pop acoustic vibe to this wonderful venue, where many of the patrons are a little bit unfamiliar with what Mitchell is all about. It is more of a showcase than anything, with a lot of people here wearing suits.
She takes to the stage with her guitar in hand and launches straight into the song “Neopolitan Dreams”, which brings immediately captures the attention of the audience of this modest venue tonight. She follows this with “Bless This Mess”, a track that is widely recognized by her fans on the Internet, with a music video to match. She closes with the sophisticated “Coin Laundry”, her most insightful song, and probably her most personal song yet.
