Founded in Cologne in 2025, Gem Jar brings together three striking voices of the international improvisation scene. Anna Größbrink (double bass), Matthew Ryals (modular synthesizer) and Jonas Engel (saxophone) meet in an open musical dialogue in which sound, sound and silence stand side by side.

With advanced playing techniques, prepared instruments and electronic sound landscapes, dense, surprising sound spaces are created - sometimes fragile and concentrated, sometimes raw and eruptive. The music moves beyond stylistic boundaries and lives from spontaneous interaction, curiosity and joint exploration.

The three musicians look back on many years of concert activity in Europe, Asia and North America and combine their individual artistic signatures to form a trio that is as independent as it is captivating.
