I heard about the Warhawks playing Philadelphia throigh a friend of mine, this was the first time I saw them. When I arrived to the venue there was a school bus unloading drunk hawk fans ready to go crazy. After the first band was finished, they setup and the lights went pitch black. The hawks blasted into a blistering heated song with flash lights on their guitars. I thought the roof was going to cave in from the crowd pushing me all over the room. The lead singer sang with a haunted remnants of joe strummer and the band was backing with powerful harmoies and fast paced garage punk music. The Warhawks blew through a 20 minute set filled with quick intense songs with pop hooks and balls out rock sensibilities. The momentum and dynamic of the band was unbelievable with everyone singing and losing themselves in the pile driver of punk hits. There was a moment when the lead singer, Matt, dedicated a song to a recently deceased friend which ensued a new order esque romantic tune which had the crowd dancing like crazy. They ended the set with a crowd favorite anthem called Sing. All in all it was a powerful experience and I cant wait to see them again. My new Philly favorite.
