Known for his knockout collaborations with various big names in the rapping and hip hop world, 25 year old Chris Webby really has some great talents of his own to bring to the table. The White Noise LP, his first and most successful album released in 2009 gave him great exposure to the rapping world.
For the price of the ticket, I wasn’t expecting Webby to be on stage for more than 45 minutes, but he exceeded all of my expectations, performing solidly for well over an hour. His powerful lyrics seemed to hit home and resonate with the crowd much more intensely than on the recordings, and it’s great to take something new from a live performance, so this touch was really special. Webby’s performance energy is outstanding. He is not only engaged with his music, but with the audience as well, singling people out, as well as addressing the entire crowd. To get the audience engaged, Webby started with some of his most well known tracks, like Bounce, and I Need a Dollar, and from then, everyone started jamming and dancing, and no one looked back! His stage presence and commitment to his music is wonderful – one of the best rappers I have ever seen live.
Hailing from Houston Texas, Riff Raff is a seasoned pro at his trade of hip-hop, which he performs this afternoon to this adoring audience of hip-hop hungry patrons, who are doing shots of Patron. Pun intended. This eclectic rapper performs a slew of some of his biggest singles to date, some of the songs that gave him the name that he has today amongst this audience.
The atmosphere is absolutely electric, as he is accompanied by not only his DJ behind him, but there are about twenty women, all holding huge cardboard cut outs of his face. Maybe that’s a sign that you’ve made it. I’ve got to give credit where it is due, this performance is really something else. Songs such as “Real Boyz” and “Tip Toe Wing in my Jawwdinz” elevate the atmosphere from a 7 to a 9 out of 10. It’s fantastic that he performs his bit that he does on the Katy Perry song, “This is How We Do” too.
It’s fitting that Maine rapper Spose’s most popular song to date is titled ‘I’m Awesome’. With no need for false modesty, Spose has used a firm sense of self-belief to steer his career through its ups and downs and this has resulted in a live show that oozes confidence. He draws the crowd into his performance, with them unable to resist his cocky charm, instantly converting new fans whilst thriving off the loyal ones as they sing along to every word of his songs.
Given his strong personality, its surprising that one of the most unique and exciting aspects of his shows are who he chooses to surround himself with. His backing band features everything from horns and pianos to drums and bass with little bit of vocal thickness coming from his hypeman and backing singer. It’s a varied cast which only makes sense as they begin to play and transform his songs into warm compositions that were born for the stage. He enjoys playful onstage banter with his band and affirms the belief that as long as Spose feels that ‘he’s awesome’ everyone around him will too. Check him out live and try feeling awesome about yourself too.
