Dessa

Dessa is an amazing performer. With one foot planted firmly in the hip-hop scene and a sound that brings together elements from R&B, Jazz and Soul, her and her live band bring new arrangements of some of her classic work while delivering an intimate yet intense performance of her more recent work that she developed with the band.

Dessa generally plays smaller venues at this point in her career. While someday I hope to see her headlining Red Rocks or some other giant venue, seeing her in clubs with a capacity of 1000 or less makes for a much more intimate show. She is always happy to stay afterwards and meet her fans.

She is incredibly gracious and I'm always amazed at the level of devotion she not only inspires in her fans, but in her humble and friendly manner when I've had the good fortune to speak with her. Dessa is also part of a larger hip-hop collective called Doomtree. As of this writing, Doomtree are working on their 3rd full length featuring all their members. Everyone from Doomtree is amazingly talented and they are some of the friendliest people I've met. P.O.S, Sims, Cecil Otter, Mike Mictlan, Lazerbeak and Paper Tiger (the rest of Doomtree) have also put out solo albums and each one is absolutely worth your time and support.
