Rapper Adenuga was born in Hackney but grew up in nearby Tottenham, North London, UK. After completing primary and secondary school Adenuga attended the University of Greenwich through which he received a First Class Honours in 3D Digital Design. Before moving to the professional music production of Pro Tools and Logic Studio, Adenuga started out producing mobile phone ringtones and playing with the production of Mario Paint and Fruity Loops.
Along with his brother Skepta and grime artist Wiley, Adenuga formed the music collective, record label, clothing label and mobile sim card line, Boy Better Know in 2005. Prior to Boy Better Know Adenuga had been part of the grime crews “Roll Deep” led by Wiley and “Meridian” alongside his brother Skepta. Throughout the 2000s Adenuga released a string of EPs, 12” and mixtapes, including “Badderman” and “Thank you Xavi Mixtape Vol. 3” as well as a host of releases for the Boy Better Know label and collective.
The rapper released his debut album in 2008 entitled “Famous?” which garnered significant attention and appeal to warrant a follow-up “Blam! in 2010. “Blam!” peaked at No. 66 in the UK albums chart and featured the singles “Over Me”, “Sidetracked” and “CD is Dead” featuring grime rapper Tempa T. Unlike his self-produced debut, JME enlisted the help of Darwoon, Deeco, and Teddy Music on his sophomore. Adenuga has remained an underground artist from his humble beginnings and has developed a considerable fan base for his reluctance to join the mainstream.
Jamie Adanuga is certainly not your average grime MC. Very rarely spitting lyrics about violence, sex and general bravado, he is instead a more conscious rapper and aims to change attitudes with his lyrics. Part of the famous grime clique Boy Better Know, who are associated with big names such as Skepta and Wiley, JME is well established in his genre and is quite a unique act.
Although he hasn't enjoyed much mainstream success due to a rigid stance about getting signed to a label who will dictate his music, he has done extremely well for someone who hasn't received commercial backing. His 2009 album, Blam, entered the UK Charts at #66 and he has featured on popular grime anthems such as 'German Whip' and 'That's Not Me'.
Performing live, JME has bundles of energy and gets close and personal to his fans, often rapping his lyrics into the face of a nearby camera. Being as respected as he is in the genre, he has a dedicated following (particularly on Twitter) meaning he can pack out large venues despite being relatively unknown on a global/national scale. As a very confident professional, JME will rarely stumble even when rapping at ridiculous fast speeds and can entertain a crowd easily. Performing mainly with large groups, he is always a stand out star at whichever concert you witness him perform at.
P Money is a very unique type artist he is an mc but also raps behind like a dub step type beat. Every performance I have seen of him is pretty amazing, you would think a huge name is performing he really draws out a crowd with his lyrics and back round music.
You almost think he is some sort of rock star that sold millions of records the way the crowd reacts to him. One of my favorite songs is "mad" from him at this point which is extremely nice song. Another awesome song I really like is Round the clock, very talented lyrics very awesome sound.
This guy is going to go really huge if he continues to progress his music and work on his flows. I would love to go see him when he gets a bit bigger and comes to the USA. I think rapping over dub step type beats is probably going to be a newer trend for the younger folks, I think a lot of people are tired of regular rap and where it has been going for the past few years, we are ready for a change of scene. P Money one of the more unique artist these days!
