Tom Novy

Your Body, the classic club hit is the track that got me into Tom Novy. As the master behind many of the hits, I thought I’d check out his own house trance music, and was pleasantly surprised. He opened the live show with his mix Back To The Streets that was supposed to be on Grand Theft Auto 3, so several people were aware of the track and were dancing along like mad. He played a great selection of his original tracks, and mixes, and really encouraged the audience to dance from start to finish.
The venue was great, not too cramped, but not massive, so everyone had a great view of the booth. It’s easy to forget the complexity of DJing when you’re not watching it live, and all of the pre-recorded sounds being blended into one leaves no margin for error. As well as mixing pre recorded tracks, Novy was using his Kaoss pad to create new beats over the top of his work to mix it up even more.
He had dancers dressed in feathers who were encouraging everyone to dance and were a fun touch, although everyone seemed more interested in the insane skill of Tom Novy working the decks at an incredible speed. It was cool to hear his well known tracks slightly altered and improvised in the performance, so we were kept on our toes not quite knowing what to expect!
