I’ve been struggling to find the right words to adequately describe Diego El Cigala’s voice. His singing is mournful yet uplifting, it’s a sound that comes from deep within his chest and bubbles up through his throat and into the room with a power that is unmatchable. His voice is haunting in the best of ways.
Diego El Cigala is a talented flamenco artist. His music fuses traditional flamenco with world sounds from the Latin American, Afro-Caribbean, Tango and Jazz traditions. His music is accessible and celebrated wherever he goes and it is no surprise that he has been the recipient of many Grammy’s over the years.
At one of Diego’s concerts, prepare yourself to be blown away by his talent and mastery of flamenco. This man can catch a rhythm you’re not even able to envisage until he’s singing it live on stage. His work is improvisational but intricate in a way that suggests extreme planning. Listen out for “Historia De Un Amor”, “Si Te Contara” and “Dos Gardenias” during one of his shows. All are incredibly popular songs and some of his best work, in my opinion. A Diego El Cigala show will be a night to remember, I guarantee it.
