Sometimes, one just needs to treat themselves to going to see a world class a cappella group once in a while. Sweet Honey in the Rock is an all-woman, African-American a cappella ensemble that has been around for over three decades, fusing together gospel, spirituals and hymns of the Black church.
Watching them do what they do live is absolutely enchanting, and truly one of those spectacles that will blow your socks off. Not only do they sing in perfect harmonies without slipping from their notes, they also uses sign language when conveying the meaning of a song across to an audience and even sing in cannon. It’s all so clever and emotive, especially when they perform “Wade in the Water” a song that has been performed by so many artists, but theirs is definitely the most well known rendition of the song. They also perform “Wade in the Water”, making quite an impression on the patrons this evening who are out of their seats at the end of the song giving Sweet Honey in the Rock the standing ovation that they deserve.
