Biography
Maceo Parker was born 14 February in 1943 and has been working the music industry since 1962. He is famous for playing a combination of soul jazz, funk and p-funk, using saxophone, vocals and even the flute. Parker was born in Kinston in North Carolina, USA o a very musical family, meaning he was heavily involved with music from a young age. In 1964, at just 21, he and his brother were taken under the wing of famous singer James Brown, who wanted them to play with him. Tis marked the start of Parker’s career and he is still best known today for his work with Brown. Parker supported Brown until 1970, before leaving with his brother and a few of Brown’s other band members to form the band Maceo & All the King's Men, which toured for two years. In 1974 Parker returned to Brown again before leaving to work with a new band, Parliament-Funkadelic. However, the band was not a hit and he returned to Brown again from the period 1984 to 1988.
With the start of a new decade, came the start of Parker’s solo career. As of 1990, Parker has released an impressive eleven solo albums. He has collaborated with artists such as De La Soul and Prince. He has also won several highly prestigious awards such as a Jammie on 2009 for his album ‘Roots & Grooves’, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from Victoires Du Jazz in Paris. In October 2011, Parker was inducted in the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. He has also headlined many jazz festivals across Europe.

When you get to the point where you can reflect upon a career that’s lasted in excess of fifty years, and can count your achievements to include long-held collaborations with the likes of James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic, it’s probably fair to say that you can consider yourself to be something of a legend in your own right; perhaps that’s how the saxophonist Maceo Parker began to feel in the early nineties, which is around the time he started touring under his own name. It’s certainly true, at least, that there’s plenty of people willing to part with their hard-earned cash in order to see him perform; he’s become a staple of the funk and jazz circuit in his own right these past couple of decades, with his show seeing him mix the classics with the contemporary and switch between alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, as he leads his own band through lively sets - he’s proven himself to be an accomplished bandleader in his own right, as he dominates the stage night after night.

Maceo has great stage presence and charisma, but I would have liked to see him play sax more! I understand the guy is 73. He probably played less than 1/3 of the time and sang or danced for the rest. The rest band were great and the funk vibe was definitely strong.

Concert 5 étoiles, toujours au TOP ce Maceo, du gros son americain bien funcky teinté de jazz. Une bonne relation avec le public, ce type est adorable et ses musiciens extrèmenent bons. Un réel plaisir pour les oreilles, genial !!!

Malgré son âge, la promesse de 98% de funk est respectée: ça groove! Le groupe était peut-être un petit peu décevant pour accompagner une telle légende du saxophone funk. Mais ça valait la peine!
