Eric Burdon’s voice is nothing short of legendary. As lead vocalist for psychedelic rock group The Animals and then a member of experimental funk group War, Eric’s voice will forever be known across the globe as responsible for such legendary songs as “House of the Rising Sun”, “We’ve Gotta Get Out of This Place” and “Spill the Wine.”
His musical legacy is strong and as an original participant in the British Invasion of the sixties, Eric and his music will be remembered for some time to come. Rather than settle into a comfortable retirement as would be expected (and much deserved) after a fifty year long career, 73 year old Eric is still going strong and touring both his solo work and performing with The Animals.
It’s safe to say that Eric is just as cool as he was in the sixties, his stage presence and the shades he wears throughout his live gigs make him larger than life. His performances are always top notch and while his voice may be older, it’s still as mighty and powerful as it ever was. When I saw him play late last year, he opened with “When I Was Young” reminding us of his place in a vitally important moment of music history. While I can’t argue that Eric Burdon deserves a long and peaceful retirement, for entirely selfish reasons I hope that he continues to tour for years to come.
English singer/songwriter Eric Burdon is considered one of the centuries most acclaimed vocalists due to his part as lead singer of the legendary psychedelic outfit The Animals. Still performing with the classic outfit at the age of 74 clearly demonstrates a dedication for both the music and the fanbase as a touring schedule will take its toll on even the most energetic and healthy performer.
The warm reaction and huge applause the group receives from their devoted following is clearly all the energy they need as they take to the stage with wide grins and collect their respective instruments. The spotlight is very much on Eric's voice during 'Never Give Up Blues' and 'Soul of a Man' as he has managed to maintain the unique tones that made his vocal stand out during The Animals' heyday. There is less emphasis on the psychedelica tonight due to a lack of visuals yet the recognisable guitar riffs and slowed tempo of 'Monterey' have not altered. Tonight does seem to be far more emphasised on Blues as the group rounds up with a cover of 'River Deep, Mountain High' by Ike & Tina Turner.

Eric in Offenbach:excellent, awesome. He is still THE VOICE. He was in extremely good form, vocally and physically. Had the pleasure to meet him and his lovely wife backstage. 90 minutes of rock, blues and a mixture of the two genres. The band were tight, especially Red Young and Billy Watts were absolutely great, although Eric McFadden might have added an even more glamorous touch. It is incredible how such tremendous vocal power comes from "a leaping gnome" (do not recall who said this). No more leaping as a consequence of age, but his performance was overwhelming. Thank you so much, Eric, for making us feel like 18 again. Me and my girls wish you many more years in good health and happiness. you deserve it.
Went to see Eric at the Belly Up in Del Mar, CA last night and it was truly one of the best live concerts I've seen of the 60s, 70s and 80s rock n roll bands. His voice was amazing and you forget how many huge hits he and his bands had over the years. His band was young and very tight as well.
Don't miss Eric if you get the chance. Will be looking for more dates with Eric elsewhere.
