A questionable band name for any genre, as Bomb the Bass headline this underground venue this evening in London. Of course there is apparently a good enough explanation that accompanies this band name. When Tim Simenon was “scratching on the decks live, and looping op top of the rhythm section, the concept was one of bombing the bass line with different ideas with a collage of sounds.” The whole thing is still bizarre to me, even after that somewhat detailed statement. He opens his set to these EDM hungry patrons, with the song “Beat Dis” which went to number 2 in the UK in 1988, but also charted internationally as far as New Zealand. The congregation is jumping up and own and throwing some wild shapes throughout, and then bring their A-Game as soon as he begins “Winter in July” which is still critically acclaimed to this day with Bomb the Bass maintaining a very good reputation amongst his peers.
