We very much enjoyed the program presented by Le Vent du Nord. My father played the violin by ear. He never took a lesson. The violin player used his bow in the same manner as my father, using primarily the middle of the bow. My father's foot taping was also much like the violin player's, but not quite as loud. Great memories for us.
We understand that English needed to be spoken for our non French speaking audience and Le Vent du Nord did a great job. The use of their accents was a plus. As for us we would like to have heard more French.
We came to listen to French music and to celebrate my sister and I's 75th birthday. We are most familiar with la musicque de la campagne, chansons a repondre, and of course, the drinking songs. Cadrilles were a favorite of ours. We noticed a lot of folks with white hair in the audience. Maybe Le Vent du Nord could incorporate some of those old time songs along with some chansons a repondre like, Sur la Route de Berthie or Prends un p'tite coup, c'est agreeable.
Overall the show was very entertaining, with plenty of comedy mixed in. The music was mostly what we had hoped for, bringing back many, many memories of our younger years.
Thank you and we hope there will be many more French programs brought in.
Le Vent du Nord bring a love of music and tradition, and musical skill that envelops the audience in a warm hug.
From their slow sets which are sure to bring a tear to the eye, through songs on the history of Quebec, to downright floor thumping dance music, this band has it all, and the personalities to match.
If you are a fan of trad music of any type, Le Vent du Nord’s style of Quebecois trad fusing instruments like the fiddle and accordion, with electric guitar and hurdy gurdy is sure to enthuse you and have you coming back for more time and time again.
At the last minute I was not able to go to the show so I gifted my ticket to a friend. The feedback is that it was wonderful, fantastic, fun, amazing...etc. I don't think he could say enough about them. He's right of course. I've seen them! They really connect with the audience!
