These Midlands rockers, The Wonderstuff, from Stourbridge have been a band for almost thirty years now, if you rule out their six-year hiatus. They formed from collaboration with band members from Pop Will Eat Itself and signed with Polydor Records in 1987. Tonight they are in their second line up, in the present day, performing some of their biggest hits to date. They open with “Better Get Ready for a Fist Fight” creating a huge wall of sound with their neo-reggae sound that they are so well known for. This band have earned themselves such a good following over the years, with this bunch in this room just singing every single word to every single song that they perform. It’s a very special atmosphere as though there are the older fans, who have been with the band since the 80’s and the young ones who are getting their friends to this show. The Wonderstuff have definitely earned themselves a place in history with all that they have achieved so far! “A Wish Away” is a huge song tonight, with a fantastic reaction from the audience, especially as they go into the first chorus. It sets the bar for what is going to be a night to remember for these Midland rockers.
Miles Hunt & his cohort are still a wonderfully talented band. The set at The Tropicana was amazing and they played a good selection of old favourites, which were received enthusiastically by a faithful group of fans who braved the rain for the event. The night was a great success. Miles is full of energy (more, more, more, more...)and he's a superb musician in his own right.
The band backed him up admirably. My only complaint is that they didn't play 30 Goes around the sun. That would have been the cherry on the top for me.Coming ready or not to the next world!!
Absolutely immense. I have seen The Wonder Stuff countless times over the years and the latest performance is up there with their best performances. The set up with the new songs before delving into the old worked really well and it was good to see the return of Goodnight Though to finish the gig like they used to do. Typical energetic performance and the crowd were fantastic. The band always seem to feed off the energy and deliver more. We'll worth every penny.
Another accomplished set full of cult indie tunes, sprinkled with some engaging interaction with the crowd. A band who seem to be thoroughly enjoying themselves!!!
