It was an ecstatic performance in a stunning setting.
But why was the middle-england audience, who obviously came to enjoy it, so feeble in their response?
While the clapping was loud between each piece, at the end of the performance, little emotion was shown - indeed the clapping was almost just polite. Only a few of us stood up to clap and show the real appreciation that this amazing event deserved.
So, what was wrong with this audience who seemed too embarrassed to show real joy and thanks to the performers for such a wonderful evening?
The audience lack of enthusiasm spoiled it for me. Is this a British thing?
It was an incredible afternoon. John is a truly talented conductor, composer and performer. It was fun, engaging and an absolute joy to spend an afternoon with him and Mel. All the emotions and motivations wrought from songs of slavery and freedom.
