Madison Square Garden is a 20,000 capacity venue located at 7th Avenue & 32nd Street, Manhattan. The arena hosts music concerts as well as sporting events and entertainments. The venue has lived through three previous incarnations.
The original Madison Square Garden was built in 1879 on 26th Street and Madison Avenue, hosting circus shows, bicycle racing and boxing matches, with a 10,000 person capacity. It closed doors in 1890 and was replaced with Madison Square Garden II. The second Madison Square Garden had a capacity of 8000, with the Democratic National Convention being held there in in 1924. The third arena was built in 1925 and had a capacity of 18,000, hosting hockey matches. In 1968 the third arena closed its doors, making way for the fourth, and current, Madison Square Garden.
Within Madison Square Garden is also the WaMu Theater which seats between 2,000 and 5,600 for live music events. Cameras with zoom lenses and recording equipment are prohibited in the arena. ATM's, payphones, water fountains, and food and drink are all available within the arena.
