Gabrielle

Gabrielle was queen of the 90's and the early 00's with her glossy, RnB-pop tracks With many a hit under her belt that have stood the test of time, from 'Rise', 'Out of Reach' and 'Dreams', she is still a nostalgic staple for ballad lowers, with many of her songs used in soundtracks for Hollywood films, such as 'Bridget Jone's Diary'. I saw Gabrielle at the height of her fame in the early 2000's. She was still playing large venues and bringing in the crowds. However, the NEC in Birmingham, where I was part of the audience, felt too big and didn't suit Gabrielle's soulful sound, or heartfelt lyrics. A more intimate setting would of taken the music to another level. Instead, Gabrielle tried to hold the huge stage all alone, with only the large screens to help. She wore her trademark black suit and sunglasses, making the show lack even more spectacle, some much needed colour wouldn't have gone a miss. The audience were a mix of ages, mostly women. A collection of mums, grans, aunts and kids all dotted around the enormous hall. The crowd were reluctant to dance or sing, but were willed to there feet by constant encouragement from the lady herself. Hits like 'Sunshine Through my Window' managed to raise some voices in a sing-a-long, but the older members of the crowd stayed very much quiet and seated.
Technically Gabrielle was pitch perfect, she has the vocal range and the stamina of a much younger woman and chatted with ease between songs to the crowd. She has a sweet, rich voice that didn't falter once, she even treated the crowd to some unexpected covers, in which she invited a member of Damage on to the stage (which really dates this review).

However on this occasion the concert should have been cancelled and rescheduled, Garbrielle was far to ill to perform despite her best efforts. She was hoarse, clearly struggling to sing and very apologetic but she should have cancelled.

I would have preferred to have heard her at her best. I was so looking forward to her performance as I have never seen her live but have had great reviews and recommendations from others who had seen her previously.

So overall, very disappointed, I paid to for a great performance and got below par.

Sorry Gabrielle but you should have cancelled or offered a refund for you performance as the crowd had to sing the majority of the songs because you were so ill.

Disappointing...

Went to Leeds Town Hall on 3oth March to see Gabrielle. I have little idea whether, or not, Gabrielle can actually sing because the sound was appallingly bad. The bass was very dominant and Gabrielle's voice simply disappeared into the worst sound mix I have heard in decades of going to concerts. It was impossible to distinguish one word, literally, of what Gabrielle was singing. For the first time in my life I walked out of a concert. Leeds Town Hall will not be seeing me again.

Don’t know how she managed to walk in the heels she was wearing but she did....very well.
Would definitely recommend to everyone to go and see her. You won’t be disappointed.
She really is amazing.
I don’t think she’s ever made a bad song and her new songs are brilliant.

Fabulous singer, looking forward to buying her new album. Gabrielle was supporting act for Rick Astley in Liverpool Echo Arena. She sung songs from new album and some of the old favourites, had people up dancing. Only criticism was no screens so hard to see her.
