Although Stephen Lynch is predominantly a stand-up comedian, he’s also a great musician. His guitar playing skills were fantastic, a hidden talent that I didn’t know he possessed, and his song writing skills are off the chart. It’s incredibly clever the way that he can morph from comedy to sincerity, bringing his audience with him smoothly, almost so you don’t notice the transition until it’s happened.
Although it was a music concert I went to see, he did tell various comedic stories before each song, which some people seemed to have a problem with, but I simply thought it added to the fun and eccentricity of the night. He’s a great comedian, so why not show off your talents and entertain the audience. Everyone was howling with laughter, so it seemed to be the right move from him! Lynch played a few tracks from each album (all the well known songs of course, Half a Man etc), and then also did some newer ones unreleased which was really exciting to witness. The way which he interacts with his audience is something that many other musicians try to achieve for years, but to him it comes naturally. This was one of the most enjoyable, fun, high energy concert’s I’ve been to in a very long time. If you like great music and a good laugh, this is for you.
