Barrington Levy came to prominence in the 80s, entering the world of dancehall and reggae. Yet he didn't just become another name, he helped shape and remodel the genre into what it has become today. He has built up a huge collection of hits and an incredible body of work , as well as featuring on a number of collaborative releases. THe 80s and 90s saw most of Levy's success but he has had tremendous longevity to this day. His music is frequently sampled by jungle, d & b and dub artists which has allowed his melodies and rhythms to continue to get feet moving to this day.
Born in Clarendon, Jamaica, Levy began performing as a teen, recording his debut single "A Long Time Since We Don't Have No Love" at the age of fourteen. Hits include "Bounty Hunter," "Here I Come" and "Moonlight Lover" which are classic dancehall tracks. Through jungle and d & b his music achieved later chart success through singles by Rebel MC and Aphrodite.
Barrington Levy is a constant guest at festivals during the summer season, appearing at festivals such as Outlook and Summerjam. His performance at the German festival showed Barrington still has ample energy to create an electric performance, with his bouncing dancehall hits receiving an uproarious reception. He is without doubt one of the best performers in the world of reggae and undoubtedly worth watching.
